The Mars Trilogy

Kim Stanley Robinson’s seminal 90s series follows the gradual settlement and terraforming of Mars—as settlers and scientists transform a frozen wasteland into a lush and habitable planet with oceans and an atmosphere. While we may not have sent a human to Mars yet, Robinson’s observations of human nature remain poignant and accurate.

For this series of covers I shot a series of images of ice melting into water, mimicking the the transformation and development of the planet in the book series.
